Welcome to the Food Packaging Conference
Science & Technology Background
Barrier packaging materials for food and other packaging applications based on macromolecular materials all have their drawbacks, e.g. cost, diffusivity, water-sensitivity, stability, opacity or environmental concerns.
The innovations followed by industry and research laboratories go along six major lines:
- coatings or surface modifications on standard polymers
- barrier polymers as discrete layers on standard polymers
- blends of barrier polymers and standard polymers
- biodegradable polymers
- nanocomposite materials
- functionalisation of barrier packaging materials
This workshop attempts to provide an overview about the different approaches outlining the principles and techniques used of each barrier technology, its performance and its anticipated potential.
A joint initiative and joint workshop of the
- Cost actions MP804- Plasma Polymerisation
- MP0701- Polymer Nanocomposite
- FA0904- Food Packaging
